Broome’s Pearl Coast Gymnastics is among 24 sporting clubs across WA to be awarded State Government funding to increase healthy food options on offer.

The only recipient in the Kimberley, the club will receive some $2100 through Healthway’s summer healthy sporting club program, to help build healthy club environments and improve knowledge and awareness of healthy eating and drinking.

Health Minister Roger Cook said the grants would help clubs make the small changes needed to create healthier lifestyles.

“Sports clubs not only provide physical, mental and social benefits but are ideally placed to promote healthy food and drink,” he said.

The clubs will now work with Healthway and the Western Australian School Canteen Association to increase healthy options at club-run canteens and kiosks.
