Free pet food, registration and treatments available as RSPCA sets up in Broome

Broome pet owners in need will be able to stock up on free supplies and register their pet with the Shire of Broome for free when the RSPCA sets up at the June 18 markets.

Microchipping for dogs and puppies and free dog registration will be available at the Courthouse Markets between 8am and 1pm.

RSPCA WA will also be handing out free pet food and flea and tick treatments for dogs and cats.

RSPCA executive manager of animal and enforcement operations Hannah Dreaver said animal neglect was a key welfare concern in the region.

“We know many people are struggling with cost-of-living pressures right now and that having a pet can be expensive,” she said.

“It’s hoped this help with the basics can help take some pressure off pet owners who are finding it hard to make ends meet.

“We’re bringing over 150kg of pet food, so there will be lots of support to go around. We know more needs to be done to help animals in the Kimberley region.”

The association is also actively recruiting for an inspector based in Broome and is “itching” to have a permanent presence established.

RSPCA WA inspectors and behaviour trainers will be available on the day to offer advice to pet owners.

Rangers from the Shire of Broome will also attend.

Community members are welcome to bring social, vaccinated dogs along to the event on a leash.

Due to welfare concerns, cats are not able to attend. Free dog microchipping is not available for litters or breeders.
