Community spirit came to the forefront once again last Saturday when volunteers organised a special concert to raise money for Broome Primary School.

It has been more than a month since part of the school was destroyed in an alleged arson attack just weeks before staff and students were due to return for the new school year.

While they were able to return to demountable classrooms set up near the affected area, the school’s P&C committee decided to hold a fundraiser at Divers Tavern.

More than 10 local acts took the stage, including Luke McPharlin, Lyrical Instinct, Yatangal, Chica, Seaside Drifters and Miss Behave and the School of Funk.

Along with ticket sale proceeds going towards the school, other fundraising efforts included a live auction, silent auctions, as well as merchandise sales of special T-shirts and tea towels.

When all was said and done, more than $23,000 had been raised, garnering plenty of praise on social media and cheers by the crowd.
