Dayne Brajkovich: WA outlaw tells of night he was knifed in ‘targeted attack’ fuelling fears of bikie war

“I asked for it, I got it. That’s the game.” In those extraordinary 10 words, notorious outlaw Dayne Brajkovich described how he was knifed in a “targeted attack” that has fuelled fears of another bikie gang war breaking out across Perth. But despite shrugging off the incident, the feared ex-Hells Angel sergeant-at-arms admitted he was taken by surprise in the Kings Park ambush on Friday night — a slip-up that saw him covered in blood with his throat slit. And police have revealed that if a quick-thinking doctor hadn’t come to Brajkovich’s aid it was “highly likely (he) would have died”. In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Times in the hours after the violent attack, Brajkovich, who was recovering from emergency surgery, said he thought the cut to his throat had been much worse. The 44-year-old was ambushed outside the Ministry of Sound concert about 9.50pm, with police revealing on Saturday they believed it was “retribution” from the bikie’s former club. “I asked for it, I got it. That’s the game,” he said on Saturday night. “But I didn’t see the knife coming. “Thought it got the jugular or artery but just a vein. Got it all sewn up.” Witnesses who were leaving the music event described seeing at least six people involved in a brawl before people rushed to a bloodied Brajkovich who had a “serious” laceration to the left side of his neck. It’s believed he also suffered an injury to a finger as he tried to defend himself, as his wife Jacinta watched on in horror. A witness told The Sunday Times that Brajkovich was not stabbed in the neck as had been widely reported. “He wasn’t stabbed. They slit his throat from behind,” the witness said. The heavily-tattooed former Hells Angels strongman’s fallout with the outlaw gang — after he bashed Perth president Kevin Simonsen in January 2022 — has been well publicised. As has his taunting of his ex-bikie brothers. WA Police detective Anthony Thompson renewed calls for witnesses to the bloodied Friday night brawl to come forward. “This was a targeted attack, and the general public has no cause for concern,” he said. “At this stage, we believe the incident is a result of an in-house gang-related issue between the Hells Angels and a former member. “The parties involved are known to each other and the possibility this incident is the result of a retribution issue is certainly an avenue we are investigating.” No arrests have been made as police continue their inquiries into the incident after men — who did not attend the concert — fled the scene on motorbikes. Det. Sen. Sgt Thompson said there were ongoing concerns for Brajkovich’s safety “I assume that the investigating officers at the time conducting risk assessment thought it was appropriate that they escort the gentleman out of the public area to somewhere which was a more covert location,” he said. “When there’s violence in the community, between two groups, there’s always a concern that there could be retribution in the future. “We do have an ongoing concern for his safety, but also any person who was considering assaulting the victim should reconsider that because we are putting a number of measures in place to ensure his security and ensure that any person who does attack him is appropriately recorded.” Other witnesses from the concert have described how a fight among bikies outside the venue on Lovekin Drive distracted Brajkovich’s attention, before he was attacked. “They dispersed and then it appeared like someone had targeted him . . . probably while he was distracted,” the witness said. “There was a woman that got involved and started screaming to the men to stop fighting and shaping up before they all dispersed . . . then obviously around the same time, someone had targeted (Brajkovich).” The attack occurred as thousands of concert-goers left the venue, and paramedics could be seen working on stemming the blood flowing from Brajkovich’s neck. A doctor who was attending the concert was also commended by WA police for their “brave efforts” in saving Brajkovic’s life. “I’d like to take this moment to thank publicly the doctor who saved that person’s life, but for his actions, it’s highly likely that person would have died,” Det. Sen Sgt. Thompson said. Police did not confirm if the attack was an assassination attempt and did not comment on the specifics of the weapon used besides it being a “small-edged weapon”. Brajkovich was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where he had emergency surgery on his throat. He walked out of the hospital on Saturday morning with a large bandage covering his neck and authorities by his side. The former bikie enforcer was joined by his wife Jacinta as he left RPH’s trauma unit at about 10.20am after having surgery overnight. He had a large bandage on the left side of his neck and a heavily bandaged finger as he strolled barefoot through the hospital. On Saturday, Det. Sen Sgt. Thompson called for anyone with photos or vision of the attack to contact police, reassuring those who may provide information can have their identities kept confidential.
