A Perth man is fighting for life in a Bali hospital as his family race to his bedside.

Artemiy “Toma” Stakhanov has been in an Indonesian ICU since he collapsed outside his Kuta hotel on Thursday.

The 26-year-old, who had been in Bali for almost two weeks, presented to hospital with symptoms including respiratory distress, low glucose and high blood potassium.

He was put into an induced coma.

Mr Stakhanov’s mother Svetlana Coulson and his friend Leilani Reid have flown to the holiday island to be by his side.

Specialist doctors are working around the clock to treat Mr Stakhanov, suspecting he has alcohol poisoning.

Ms Reid said it had been a “day by day process” as they hoped to bring him back to Australia.

“He’s improved phenomenally since we got here, from when I flew in on Thursday to today ... they’re planning to start the day by day process on taking him off sedation and the ventilator support,” the 25-year-old said.

“He’s got no more respiratory distress, The internal bleeding is no longer showing up.

“Hopefully the recovery happens quicker than what they’re telling us ... if we can get him in the care of Australia, that’d be great.”

Describing Mr Stakhanov as “someone who would go to the ends of the earth for those he loves”, Ms Reid said raising funds had been stressful as his mother was burdening the costs.

Supporting him from his bedside, costs stand at $37,000 as they try and get her son back to Australia.

Ms Reid — who started the GoFundMe — said the any donation is appreciated “immensely” as the cost to get him back to his home.

“The expenses are just far too much, it’s all a bit stressful just trying to figure out what to do about everything,” she said.

More than $5500 has so far been raised as tributes flow for Mr Stakhanov online.

The techno music community — which “Toma” is actively part of — has chimed in to help raise funds by hosting a music event at Port Beach Brewery in North Fremantle on September 9.

Mr Stakhanov — who is based in Morley — is understood to be passionate about the music and dance community.

All ticket sales for the event are set to be donated toward his medical bills.
