A 90-year-old Holocaust survivor injured in the Bondi Beach terror attack has died almost a year after the shooting.
Eva Geller, a great-grandmother who escaped the Holocaust as a child before moving to Australia, died overnight following months of treatment for injuries sustained in the December 14, 2025 attack.
Mrs Geller was shot during the Chanukah by the Sea celebration and suffered serious injuries, including shrapnel wounds to her leg.
Despite being told she would never walk again, she defied doctors’ expectations and managed to get back on her feet.
Rabbi Aron Moss, from Nefesh Synagogue, paid tribute to Mrs Geller, describing her as a loving and determined woman who had overcome extraordinary hardship.
“Ever since being shot at the Bondi attack she’d been in and out of hospital, always wanting to come home,” Rabbi Moss told News24.
“She was told she will never walk again but miraculously, and with incredible determination, she did walk again.”

Mrs Geller had also managed to attend synagogue during the recent Jewish High Holidays, in what Rabbi Moss described as an extraordinary display of strength.
“She escaped the Holocaust as a child, eventually coming to Australia, and built a beautiful family,” he said.
He remembered her as “positive, loving and strong throughout her life, right until the end”.
Mrs Geller celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year.
NSW Police confirmed on Friday afternoon that a woman injured in the attack had died.
“NSW Police are aware that a 90-year-old woman – who was injured in the Bondi terror attack – has died overnight at a hospital in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs,” police said in a statement.
“NSW Police are now awaiting further advice and are working with the office of the Coroner.”

According to the Daily Telegraph, Mrs Geller developed an infection following treatment for her gunshot wound and was recently readmitted to hospital.
She suffered a stroke while in hospital and died overnight.
Her family considers her the 16th victim of the terror attack, although authorities have not formally confirmed whether her death will be added to the official toll.

Mrs Geller’s funeral is expected to take place on Monday.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he was saddened by Mrs Geller’s death, describing the ongoing impact of the attack as devastating.
“Almost a year on, the devastation of that awful day continues to cause pain for families and today we recognise that more than ever,” he said.
“Eva should have been able to celebrate Chanukah in peace and safety and instead, her life was changed forever by an act of terror and antisemitism.”
“We are wrapping our arms around Eva’s family, friends and the Jewish community at this very sad time,” he said.
“May her memory be a blessing.”
NSW Premier Chris Minns also paid tribute to Mrs Geller, describing her death as “heartbreaking”.
“After everything Eva Geller endured, the news of her death is heartbreaking,” he said.
“My thoughts are with Eva’s family and the Jewish community as they face another painful loss.

“Almost a year on, we are still living with the pain and aftershock of that evil act. We will never forget Eva or any victim whose life was changed forever.”
