The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River and community partners unveiled the next step in their support for the region’s economy this week, asking residents to “take the pledge” to support local traders.

The Local Is More campaign will also ramp up with an official opening at The River on July 30.

Shire president Ian Earl said the campaign went live last month, and residents were encouraged to share the message on social media and sign their pledge online.

“We live in a hardworking community that has been built on the backbone of locals looking after each other,” he said.

“It’s now time for us to step up and say thank you to the local families who make our region what it is today and get behind them to keep them thriving.”

Online pledges to back the region’s economy were open on the www.localismore.com.au website, as well as Facebook and Instagram.

Cr Earl said the pledge was an important way to support local businesses and let traders know residents were behind them.

The July 30 launch will have further information about the campaign, the chance to mingle with business operators and drinks, nibbles and live music.

Members of partner groups including Transition Margaret River, the Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Cowaramup Business Association and the Margaret River Regional Producers Association will also be in attendance. Tickets are $5 for chamber members and $10 for the public. They are available via admin@mrcci.com.au.
