Retired racehorses will converge on the Albany Equestrian Centre to take part in the first Off the Track Clinic held in the Great Southern from Friday.

Racing and Wagering WA has partnered with Equestrian WA to present a series of events across the State through its Off the Track program.

In addition to promoting and facilitating the rehoming of retired racehorses, the clinics provide important on-going support for off-the-track horses and their new owners.

A strong response for the first Great Southern clinic will have nearly 40 retired horses attending the two-day event.

The clinics will be run at AEC from 8am-5.15pm on Friday and from 8am-1pm on Saturday.

Notable racehorses that will be involved in the event include six-time Group 1 winner Black Heart Bart.

The champion WA thoroughbred was retired in June and now lives on the farm of Albany’s Graeme Weinert.

His daughter Amarlie will ride Black Heart Bart in the Albany clinics. Other retired gallopers who will take part include Action, The Cruel Sea, Fairly Hot, Imperial Grand, Rock Prince, Hostwin Pegasus, He’s Smokin, Real Target, and Waychinicup — several of whom were trained or owned locally in the Great Southern.

The 2020-2021 Off the Track series focuses on educating owners on retired racehorses and providing them access to level 1 and 2 Equestrian Australia coaches.
