A 55-year-old man died after a suspected medical episode while walking the Bibbulmun Track near Peaceful Bay on Saturday.

Walpole officer-in-charge Sergeant Dave Murphy said two men met on the popular 1000km trail and started walking a section of the track together.

After stopping for lunch at Peaceful Bay, the pair continued towards Denmark.

One of the men stopped to sit in some shade while the other kept walking.

Later, the hiking partner returned to the area where it is believed the 55-year-old had suffered a medical episode.

He tried to resuscitate the man but he could not be revived.

Sgt Murphy said a report was being prepared for the coroner.

He said it was the third death on the track this year.

The Bibbulmun track stretches from Kalamunda in the Perth hills to Albany.
