Hay crash: A young driver charged with careless driving after a crash on Great Southern Highway near Denmark

A driver in his 20s has been charged with careless driving causing death, grievous bodily harm or bodily harm after a crash on a popular Great Southern highway left another driver in their 30s trapped and with a serious eye injury. About 2.25pm on Saturday, a green Hyundai Elantra sedan travelling west on South Coast Highway near Pratts Road in Hay, about 10km east of Denmark, collided with an oncoming silver Nissan Navara ute. After being freed from the vehicle, the 33-year-old driver of the Hyundai was conveyed to Albany Hospital by St John WA for treatment of a serious eye injury. The 22-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken to Denmark Health Service with non-life-threatening injuries, and is due to appear in court at a later date. Three crews from Denmark Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and two crews from Albany Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to assist in freeing the Hyundai driver of the Hyundai.
