Budding Aboriginal entrepreneurs from across the Great Southern will be able to access tools and advice to help them start their own business as part of a new initiative from an Albany-based employment agency.

Impact Services and IPS Management Consultants will launch the Indigenous Business Hub program next week, offering free workshops in Katanning and Albany to help aspiring and established business owners get their ideas off the ground.

Impact Services director Stuart Roberts said support would extend beyond the workshops, with the service focused on connecting participants with training and contacts to make sure their ideas were sustainable.

“It is to ensure that local Aboriginal people have access to information about how to start up a business and to gain support from trained facilitators to help them along their journey,” he said.

“There are quite a lot of opportunities in the region and across the State for Aboriginal people and Aboriginal businesses, and it is ensuring people understand the importance of considering those possibilities and looking at a business as a reality for them.

“Having a local point of contact and service that can walk hand in hand with community members means that those who have looked at business as a faint possibility can now have the support they need to turn that business into reality.”

Workshops will be held at the Katanning Great Southern Development Commission office on May 4 and 25, and in Albany at Impact Services on May 5 and 26.
