Albany RSL sub-branch members and guests brought a year of commemorations to a close with a military-style formal dinner at the Le Grande Motel on November 13.

The Armistice Day dinner attracted more than 100 guests who enjoyed a meal and live entertainment from the City of Albany Band.

O’Connor MP Rick Wilson, Opposition Leader Mia Davies and retired and serving Australian Defence Force personnel were in attendance, with Brigadier (Retd) Geoff Hand giving a keynote address.

Decmil Group chief financial officer Damien Kelliher presented the RSL sub-branch with a $10,000 cheque to go towards next year’s Anzac Day service.

It is the second year running the constructing and engineering group behind the Albany Ring Road have donated to the Albany RSL.

“The very successful dinner was the result of a large amount of lead up work by RSL club social co-ordinator Steve Morrow (pictured right) and the social committee over a period of several months,” Albany RSL service director Michael Tugwell said.

“The recent successful Remembrance Day Service, followed by the highly successful Armistice Day Dinner was a fitting end to RSL public activities for the year 2021.”

Mr Tugwell said the event was also a dress rehearsal for the Albany RSL’s anniversary dinner at Albany Entertainment Centre next year.

“Next year we will commemorate the 105th Anniversary of the formation of the Albany RSL — the third-oldest RSL sub-branch in WA,” he said.

“This dinner will see attendance by 60 people with a significant ADF presence and including the Army Band Perth.”
