Deteriorating finger jetties at Lower King and Emu Point are set for upgrades after the City of Albany council unanimously voted to award the contract for the project at Tuesday’s ordinary council meeting.

The contract, which was kept confidential in line with the Local Government Act, will see the two jetties upgraded within the 2020-21 financial year, using funds made available through the State Government’s Recreational Boating and Fishing scheme.

An officer recommendation put to council ahead of the meeting stated the existing timber finger jetties at both locations were in “poor condition with significant corrosion” in head stocks.

“Due to their narrow, uneven and slippery condition, not only are the existing jetties potentially dangerous but also do not cater for users with a disability,” the report stated.

“Recent upgrades to the Lower King boat ramp car park allowed for a second ramp to be installed which is now proposed as part of this project which will significantly increase the capacity at this well-used facility.
