Peckish footy lovers can rejoice after the AFL announced a major price freeze on fan-favourite food items.

The AFL is locking in affordable prices for bestsellers such as pies, hot chips and hot dogs for round 1 at Marvel Stadium, with some items expected to be cheaper than they were a decade ago.

Pies are slated to cost just $4.70, 30 cents cheaper than in 2016, with hotdogs slashed from $6.50 to $6.00.

Marvel Stadium general manager Scott Fitzgerald boasted “it is cheaper to buy a Four’N Twenty pie in stadium than it is at the service station”.

Hot chips remain the No.1 seller at the footy, regular sizes at Marvel Stadium are priced at $4.90; meaning those looking to pair with a pie will be able to get both for less than $10.

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon backed the price freeze ahead of round 1.

“It is shaping to be a big season of footy at Marvel, with hot chips and pies continuing to be our bestsellers on a match day, and it is important to the AFL that we make it as easy as possible for fans to the enjoy their footy favourites,” Dillon said.

Across town at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, there was outrage in 2024 as footy fans were struck right in the hip pocket when the price of a Four’N Twenty pie ballooned to $6.20.

Fitzgerald said it was important that AFL fans were not slapped with steep food prices.

“The cost of doing business continues to rise; however, we wanted to make sure that cost wasn’t passed on to footy fans when it comes to their favourite items on the menu,” he said.

“I would like to thank our partner Delaware North and all our stadium partners, they have played a crucial role in Marvel Stadium’s evolution over the last 25 years, and they continue to deliver fans a whole suite of offerings to cater for any tastebuds.”

Prices for hot jam doughnuts and bottled water remain at 2025 prices, costing $5 and $4.90 respectively.

Marvel Stadium has introduced price freezes on general administration tickets in addition to no transaction fees on ticket purchases.
