An elderly man sustained deep puncture wounds to his his thigh and calf in a vicious dog attack in Belmont today.

Pained screams rang out over Raleigh Street just before 5pm, after the man, believed to be aged in his 90s, was bitten.

The man who was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital was understood to be visiting a friend when he was viciously attacked.

A witness told 7NEWS they initially heard a lot of screaming but ignored it for ten minutes before realising it wouldn't stop.

“That’s when we came out and saw Mr Omar rolling the floor and we saw him bleeding,” a witness told 7NEWS.

Neighbours told 7NEWS it wasn’t the first time the dog had attacked and they're scared for their and their children's safety.

Once WA Police and paramedics had visited, the ranger did attend.

He spoke to witnesses and knocked on the door of what's understood to be the dog owner's house but there was no answer.
