With many of us spending more time indoors than ever in present times, it’s natural to want our bedrooms to feel like safe havens.

The winter chill is in full swing, Perth hasn’t quite returned to normal following the coronavirus-related restrictions and there seems to be a collective desire to turn inwards and stay inside.

So how do we make our sleeping spaces as conducive to rest and relaxation as possible?

Georgie Cavanagh from French-inspired Australian bedding label Carlotta and Gee has become an expert in creating cosiness, thanks to her years spent testing premium sustainable linens and cultivating the ideal sleep space.

1. Open the windows — “Fresh air is key!,” Cavanagh says.

2. Pick some springs of herbs and natives from your garden — “It is saving money but also creating a nice feel in your room with some fresh smells and sights. Even the smallest thing like flowers can change your mood.”

3. Spritz lavender on your pillowcases — “The smell is heaven and it knows it makes you sleep well,” Cavanagh says. “Sleep is key during this period to ensure we remain as fit as we can be.”

4. Clean your room — “This should be mandatory to ensure your mood stays positive.”

5. Ensure you don’t have paperwork everywhere — “Think clear and clean,” Cavanagh says,

6. Play some nice music as soon as you wake up — “Try not to have the news on in your bedroom as it isn’t all that great. Try to have a break from it in that room.”

7. Wash your sheets — “More than ever we must be aware of our surroundings and keeping things clean,” Cavanagh says. “At C+G we would recommend at least once a week. Try investing in euro pillowcases as they allow you to sit up to read in bed.”

8. Make your bed — “It is easy to not and let the day go,” she says. “However it is important to make the bed and set yourself up for the day.”
