Supermodel Emily Ratajkowski accuses Robin Thicke of groping her on set of Blurred Lines video
Model and actress Emily Ratajkowski has accused musician Robin Thicke of groping her on the set of controversial video Blurred Lines.
In an excerpt from her new book, My Body the 30-year-old mum of one said the 44-year-old singer was drunk when he grabbed her breasts on set.
“Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the coolness and foreignness of a stranger’s hands cupping my bare breasts from behind. I instinctively moved away, looking back at Robin Thicke,” she wrote, according to the New York Post.
“He smiled a goofy grin and stumbled backward, his eyes concealed behind his sunglasses. My head turned to the darkness beyond the set. [The director, Diane Martel’s] voice cracked as she yelled out to me, ‘Are you okay?'”
The 2013 video and song stirred up massive criticism at the time, with three mostly naked models dancing around a fully clothed Pharrell Williams, rapper TI and Thicke.
Its lyrics were also condemned as sexist and misogynistic, with some critics saying it promoted rape culture.
The artists were also forced to pay $5.3 million to the estate of the late Marvin Gaye after it was alleged the song was lifted from Gaye’s 1977 song Got to Give it Up.
The video though is said to be what shot Ratajkowski to worldwide fame, becoming one of the most recognised models across the globe as well as attracting an Instagram following of 28.3 million.
Of the incident outlined in the book’s chapter called Blurred Lines, director Martel confirmed she witnessed the whole thing in an interview and said she immediately stopped the shoot.
“I remember the moment that he grabbed her breasts,” she said.
“One in each hand. He was standing behind her as they were both in profile. I screamed in my very aggressive Brooklyn voice, ‘What the f*** are you doing, that’s it! The shoot is over!’”
Thicke allegedly apologised after the incident, with Martel saying: “I don’t think he would have done this had he been sober.”
Ratajkowski’s book is out on October 19.
